Kabosu, the beloved Shiba Inu whose image became synonymous with Dogecoin, passed away on the morning of May 24 at the age of 18. Kabosu's owner announced the news in a heartfelt blog post.

"Today, Kabosu, our community's shared friend and inspiration, peacefully passed, in the arms of her person," read a tribute on Dogecoin’s official X account. "The impact this one dog has made across the world is immeasurable."

Kabosu’s iconic meme first went viral in the early 2010s, leading to the creation of Dogecoin (DOGE) in 2013. Dogecoin quickly rose to prominence, becoming the largest memecoin by market capitalization and inspiring other popular dog-themed cryptocurrencies like Shiba Inu and Floki. Over the past 24 hours, more than $2.87 billion worth of Dogecoin was traded, according to CoinMarketCap.

In remembrance of Kabosu, a memorial ceremony will be held on Sunday at Flower Kaori in Kotsu no Mori, Narita City, from 1 PM to 4 PM. Kabosu's owner shared these details in the blog post, inviting fans to pay their respects to the Shiba Inu who brought joy and inspiration to so many.
