Tigran Gambaryan, a Binance executive currently held at the Kuje correctional center in Abuja, Nigeria, remains in custody as the Federal High Court postpones his bail application hearing once more. Originally scheduled for April 18, the hearing has been rescheduled for April 22, as reported by local news agency Nairametrics.

During the recent court session, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) informed the court that Gambaryan's lawyer had submitted an additional affidavit to his bail application on April 16. Senior counsel E. Iheanacho outlined new points raised by the defense, necessitating time for a proper response in the pursuit of justice.

Justice Emeka Nwite, the judge presiding over the case, agreed to the postponement. However, Gambaryan's lawyer, Mark Mordi, expressed concern over his client's prolonged detention in federal government custody, which has now exceeded 14 days.

Mordi criticized the prosecution for allegedly failing to file a response to the additional affidavit submitted with the bail application, highlighting what he perceives as procedural shortcomings.

Gambaryan was remanded by the trial judge after pleading not guilty to money laundering charges brought forth by the EFCC. The agency accused Binance, Gambaryan, and Nadeem Anjarwalla of concealing the source of $35.4 million revenue in Nigeria, alleging it originated from unlawful activities.

Following the court's acceptance of the EFCC's arraignment of the defendants, Mordi requested bail for his client under lenient conditions. The court permitted the EFCC to detain the Binance executives for 14 days and mandated Binance to provide the government with access to data and details of Nigerian traders using its platform.

Binance and its executives are grappling with two separate lawsuits: one from the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) related to tax evasion and another from the EFCC alleging money laundering and foreign exchange violations.

In addition to these legal battles, Gambaryan is also suing the government for violating his fundamental human rights. His motion asserts that his detention in Nigeria and the confiscation of his passport violate the country's constitution, which guarantees an individual's right to personal liberty.

The arrests of Gambaryan and Anjarwalla, both high-ranking Binance executives, occurred on Feb. 28 during a visit to Nigeria, following the federal government's ban on cryptocurrency channels as part of efforts to curb currency speculation. Anjarwalla managed to escape detention using a fake passport.
