Tigran Gambaryan, a Binance executive, finds himself still in custody at the Kuje correctional center as his bail appeal met another setback. Despite efforts to secure his release, a Federal High Court in Abuja, Nigeria, postponed the hearing for his bail application once more, pushing it to April 22. This delay comes amidst a legal battle that has kept Gambaryan detained for over two weeks.

The courtroom drama unfolded as Gambaryan's lawyer, Mark Mordi, criticized the prosecution's apparent lack of response to an additional affidavit submitted in support of the bail application. Despite the defense's efforts to bolster their case, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) highlighted the need for time to address new points raised by the defense.

Justice Emeka Nwite presiding over the case agreed to the postponement, acknowledging the importance of ensuring a fair and just process. However, Mordi underscored the prolonged detention of his client and the prosecution's delay in responding to the defense's submissions.

Gambaryan's legal woes stem from allegations of money laundering leveled against him by the EFCC. Alongside Binance, Gambaryan and another executive, Nadeem Anjarwalla, are accused of concealing the source of revenue totaling $35.4 million in Nigeria. Despite pleading not guilty, Gambaryan finds himself entangled in a complex legal battle.

The court had previously granted the EFCC's request to detain Gambaryan for 14 days, during which Binance was ordered to provide access to data and details of Nigerian traders using its platform. These legal actions are part of broader lawsuits faced by Binance, including allegations of tax evasion and foreign exchange violations.

In a twist to the legal saga, Gambaryan has taken legal action against the government, alleging violations of his fundamental human rights. His motion argues that his detention and the confiscation of his passport violate constitutional guarantees of personal liberty.

The saga began on Feb. 28 when Nigerian officials arrested Gambaryan and Anjarwalla during a visit to Nigeria, coinciding with the government's ban on cryptocurrency channels. While Anjarwalla managed to escape detention using a fake passport, Gambaryan continues to grapple with the legal ramifications of his visit to Nigeria.
