Binance has resumed allowing crypto purchases using Visa and Mastercard for its exchange users. Does this signal the end of Binance’s regulatory troubles?

Binance, the world's largest cryptocurrency exchange, has reinstated the ability for customers to purchase cryptocurrencies using Visa and Mastercard, according to a June 6 announcement on X (formerly Twitter). This update also includes resuming SEPA bank transfers for smoother transactions. Customers can now make purchases of up to €5,000 or $20,000 in a single transaction on the platform.

Binance had previously halted Visa debit card services in the European Economic Area (EEA) on December 20, following regulatory pressures and the cessation of services by payments processor Paysafe. Additionally, Mastercard ended its partnership with Binance in several countries in September, coinciding with increased scrutiny from the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC).

The reintroduction of these services may indicate a resolution of some of Binance's regulatory challenges. The company recently settled with U.S. authorities, paying a $4.3 billion fine for Anti-Money Laundering violations, and its founder, Changpeng Zhao (CZ), stepped down as CEO and began serving a four-month prison sentence related to money laundering charges. Despite these challenges, Binance's restoration of card services suggests a potential easing of regulatory pressures.
