Binance, a cryptocurrency exchange, is facing legal trouble in Nigeria. During a court hearing on April 4, the company did not have any lawyers present. Only the compliance chief, Tigran Gambaryan, was there, who has been detained by the Nigerian government since the end of February. However, the Nigerian High Court decided to postpone the case until April 19.

Binance has not yet responded to requests for comments from CryptoSlate. The Nigerian authorities accused Binance and its executives of not registering with local agencies and not paying taxes, which has facilitated tax evasion among users. Despite having Gambaryan in custody, they failed to serve the charges to the defendants.

Gambaryan's legal counsel argued that the case should not proceed due to this issue. Binance has been involved in disputes with the Nigerian government for the past two months regarding its alleged role in worsening the country's foreign exchange problems. Despite denying any wrongdoing, the Nigerian authorities have filed criminal complaints against Binance and its executives.

Nadeem Anjarwalla, a UK citizen and executive at Binance, evaded custody in March and is being tried in absentia. The government has enlisted Interpol to help with his extradition. Binance has appealed for Gambaryan's release, stating that he is not a major decision-maker in the company. Gambaryan himself has taken legal action against the Nigerian authorities, claiming a violation of his human rights.
