Bitcoin developer Burak, known for his work on the Lightning Network, has introduced a new layer 2 solution called "Brollups" to expand Bitcoin's decentralized finance (DeFi) capabilities.

Brollups is a Bitcoin-native rollup design that bundles transactions without requiring a hard fork or new token. Burak claims Brollups can support over 90% of DeFi use cases, including NFT sales and token trades on decentralized exchanges (DEXs).

Brollups will be managed by "operators" who provide liquidity and advance the rollup state by chaining Bitcoin transactions at regular intervals. Transactions will be executed on the Bitcoin Virtual Machine.

Burak has received praise from the Bitcoin community for developing Brollups without the need for a hard fork or new token. His previous work includes exploiting a bug in the Lightning Network in 2022, which led to an emergency update for node operators.

Brollups are currently in the design phase, with a testnet version expected later this year. As Brollups progress, the Bitcoin community is eager to see the enhanced DeFi capabilities this solution can bring to the Bitcoin ecosystem.
