During the initial trading week of June, Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) in the United States acquired nearly as much Bitcoin as the total mined supply over a two-month period.

In the span of June 3 to 7, U.S. Bitcoin ETFs witnessed inflows totaling approximately $1.83 billion, resulting in the acquisition of 25,729 Bitcoin. This acquisition surpasses the new Bitcoin mined during the same period, which amounted to only 3,150 BTC. The data, sourced from HODL15Capital, underscores a significant surge in Bitcoin ETF activity compared to previous months.

The influx of Bitcoin into ETFs during the first week of June nearly matches the total acquisition for the entire month of May, which stood at 29,592 BTC. This spike in ETF purchasing represents the most substantial week of buying since mid-March, coinciding with Bitcoin's previous all-time high of $73,679.

Since their launch in January, the 11 Bitcoin ETFs have witnessed net inflows of $15.69 billion. Despite Grayscale's fund experiencing net outflows of $17.93 billion, the combined assets under management (AUM) for all ETFs currently stand at approximately $61 billion.

Bitcoin's scarcity, with only 21 million BTC ever to be issued, has long been emphasized by proponents who liken the cryptocurrency to "digital gold."

ETF Store president Nate Geraci highlighted the rapid growth of Bitcoin ETF AUM, which has already reached 60% of the country's gold ETFs, despite Bitcoin ETFs being in existence for only five months compared to gold ETFs, which have been available for two decades.

The surge in Bitcoin ETF activity coincided with Bitcoin briefly touching a high of $71,093 on June 5, marking its highest level since May 21. However, sustaining this price level has proven challenging, with the cryptocurrency's value now heavily influenced by macroeconomic factors and geopolitical events, according to insights from crypto exchange co-founder "Radar Bear."
