After basking in the glow of record-breaking profits during Bitcoin's recent halving event, miners now find themselves grappling with a harsh reality: a sharp decline in hash prices, threatening to squeeze their profit margins. The average revenue a Bitcoin miner earns per performed hash, known as the hash price, has plummeted to its lowest level since October 2023, according to data from crypto analytics firm CryptoQuant.

The hash price, which soared to a peak of $0.19 on the halving day, has taken a nosedive, dropping from nearly $0.12 in early April to a mere $0.07 in the aftermath of the halving. This precipitous decline comes as a stark contrast to the euphoric atmosphere surrounding the halving event, which slashed miners' block reward from 6.25 BTC to 3.125 BTC while operational costs remained steady.

Ki Young Ju, the CEO of CryptoQuant, estimated that the cost of mining with Antminer S19 XPs would effectively double, rising from $40,000 to $80,000 following the halving. Despite this reduction in rewards, the total network hash rate has remained remarkably stable since the halving event, suggesting that Bitcoin mining remains a profitable endeavor at the current price levels.

"Although it is still too early to see any long-term effects of the halving on the network hashrate, miners seem to be running operations at the same rate as before the halving," CryptoQuant noted in a report, with the total network hash rate hovering around 617 EH/s post-halving.

While the immediate aftermath of the halving has been marked by stability, the long-term impacts on the hash rate and overall miner activity remain uncertain. Historically, post-halving periods have witnessed miners exiting the market due to mounting operational costs, and the current scenario is unlikely to be an exception.
