This sharp reduction in Rune etchings, a protocol for fungible tokens, has had a profound impact on transaction fee earnings for Bitcoin miners, causing a significant downturn in their revenue streams.

On a day marked by a record high of 23,061 Runes etched on April 26, the subsequent plunge has led to a stark decrease in transaction fee income, with earnings dwindling to a mere US$3,835 by Monday. Initially introduced on April 20, the Runes protocol offered a lifeline to miners by boosting their earnings through substantial transaction fees, effectively compensating for income losses incurred after the fourth Bitcoin halving event.

The confluence of the Runes launch and the halving event, reducing the block subsidy to 3.125 BTC, exemplified the synergy between enhanced transaction activity from Runes and sustained miner revenue generation. To date, the Bitcoin blockchain has witnessed over 91,200 Runes etched, underscoring the protocol's impact on network activity and miner economics despite the recent downturn.
