Thailand has ventured into the Bitcoin market with the launch of a specialized exchange-traded fund (ETF) designed for high net-worth individuals and institutions. This initiative comes amid a global increase in cryptocurrency interest, but Thai regulators are adopting a cautious strategy, emphasizing security and controlled access for beginners.

Exclusive Access for Elite Investors

The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has approved the ONE Bitcoin ETF Fund of Funds Unhedged, managed by One Asset Management (ONEAM), according to the Bangkok Post. Unlike traditional ETFs available to the public, this fund is restricted to accredited investors, including institutions and wealthy individuals. This selective access aligns with the regulatory approach in Asia, where authorities are cautious with Bitcoin. For instance, while China has imposed strict bans, countries like South Korea and Japan enforce stringent know-your-customer (KYC) regulations and listing standards for crypto exchanges.

### Security-First Approach

The ONEAM ETF takes a unique approach by investing in a basket of 11 established global Bitcoin funds rather than directly holding Bitcoin. This "fund-of-funds" model aims to reduce risks associated with individual trading platforms, which have been prone to data breaches and theft.

Moreover, the ETF prioritizes secure storage practices, using international standards and custodians trusted by institutional investors. These custodians store Bitcoin offline, significantly minimizing the risk of online attacks.

### Portfolio Diversification Strategy

For accredited investors, Bitcoin presents an opportunity to diversify their portfolios, as its price movements generally show low correlation with traditional assets like stocks and bonds. Including a small portion of Bitcoin can help reduce overall portfolio volatility. Despite these advantages, the SEC recognizes the high risks of crypto investments, given Bitcoin's notorious volatility. ONEAM advises a conservative approach, recommending that investors allocate only 5% of their portfolio to Bitcoin.
