This past week marked a positive turn for many cryptocurrencies, with notable gains seen across the board. Bitcoin, in particular, stood out alongside other digital assets thanks to renewed interest and developments surrounding the approval process of Ethereum exchange-traded funds (ETFs) in the United States. Throughout the week, tokens like UNI, PEPE, LDO, and ETH emerged as top performers among the larger alternative coins.

Bitcoin began the week with fluctuations, struggling to maintain levels above $66,000. However, by mid-week, the cryptocurrency surged impressively, fueled by reports of potential approvals for several Ethereum ETFs by the US SEC. This pushed Bitcoin's price up by over $5,000, approaching $72,000 for the first time in six weeks. Despite initial gains, Bitcoin's price later experienced some volatility and fluctuated downwards.

The most significant drop occurred just before the US securities regulator's announcement on May 23, causing Bitcoin to briefly dip to $66,400. However, by May 24, the price rebounded, reaching around $69,000. Over the weekend, Bitcoin stabilized around this level, maintaining a market cap close to $1.370 trillion and retaining a dominant position with a 50.3% share over other cryptocurrencies.

The impact on altcoins, especially Ethereum, was notable as well. Ethereum surged from $3,100 to over $3,900 during the week, marking its highest price since early April. The approval news from the SEC also contributed to Ethereum's volatility, with the cryptocurrency currently holding steady near $3,800 after a 22% increase last week.

Other altcoins like DOGE, LINK, and APT also saw significant gains, but it was Uniswap (UNI) and PEPE that led the charge with impressive increases. UNI soared by 44% to above $11, while PEPE reached new all-time highs. On the flip side, SOL, TRX, TON, and ADA experienced declines. Despite this, the overall cryptocurrency market added more than $200 billion in value, pushing its total market cap above $2.7 trillion by the end of the week.
