Despite this positive step, UK-based users still face restrictions in accessing the white paper due to legal constraints. Bitcoin.org had previously limited access for users in the UK, displaying a notable quote from Satoshi Nakamoto emphasizing the resilience of information dissemination.

The legal hurdles stem from Wright's copyright claims over the white paper, which led to a lawsuit against Cobra, the anonymous operator of Bitcoin.org, resulting in the removal of the white paper PDF in 2021. Wright's legal actions extended to suing Bitcoin Core developers and prominent companies in 2023, alleging copyright violations related to the white paper and blockchain rights.

However, Wright's claims have been debunked, invalidating his copyright win and prompting a detailed ruling against him by the Crypto Open Patent Alliance (COPA). COPA accused Wright of deception and forgery in an attempt to assert ownership over Bitcoin's intellectual property, leading to a freeze of his assets by a UK court to prevent evasion of legal expenses.

Despite the legal turmoil, the Bitcoin white paper now falls under an MIT open-source license, allowing for its unrestricted use and modification.
