GM fam, today’s episode is what I call a double-edged sword. We’ll be looking at two sections of the explorer which are core aspects of blockchains— Tokens and NFTs.

First off, we’ll first look at tokens.

Tokens.

A token represents a digital asset on the blockchain. It enables users to buy, sell, and hold (own) a certain value of an asset digitally. On etherscan, these tokens are tracked according to;

Top Tokens (ERC20), and Token Transfers.

Top Tokens.

Users can tailor their search according to the metrics they are interested in.

These are;

Price: This is the current price of the token in US Dollars
Change (%): The percentage change in the token's price in the last 24 hours.
Volume (24H): The total trading volume of the token in the last 24 hours.
On-Chain Market Cap: This is calculated by multiplying the current market price per token by the total supply on the ETHEREUM NETWORK
Circulating Market Cap: Calculated by multiplying the current market price per token by the number of tokens in circulating supply ACROSS ALL CHAINS.
Holders: The number of unique addresses holding the token

Token Transfers provide detailed information about all activities relating to the token’s transfer. The following metrics can be obtained here;

Txn Hash: The unique identifier of the transaction.
Method: The type of the transaction Eg, transfer, swap, etc.
Age: The time elapsed since the transaction/token transfer occurred.
From: The sender’s address.
To: The receiver’s address.
Value: The amount of tokens transferred in the transaction.
Token: The name and symbol of the token that is transferred.

Users can find more details of a particular transaction by clicking on the eye symbol beside the transaction of interest as shown below..

NFTs

NFT stands for Non-Fungible Tokens. This means that they are unique tokens that cannot be exchanged or replaced, unlike normal ‘tokens’. Its use case cuts across gaming, artworks, digital identities, and real estate tokenization, amongst others. The NFTs section on Etherscan is divided into five (5) sub-categories viz; Top NFTs, Top Mints, Latest Trades, Latest Transfers, and Latest Mints.

1. Top NFTs: This subsection displays the most popular NFT collections on the Ethereum blockchain.

The following metrics are displayed for each collection:

- Collection: The name of the NFT collection.

- Type: The type of NFT token, either ERC-721 or ERC-1155.

- Min Price (24H): The lowest 24-hour last sale price for NFTs in the collection.

- Max Price (24H): The highest 24-hour last sale price for NFTs in the collection.

- Sales: The total number of NFT sales in the collection within a specified timeframe.

- Transfers: The total number of NFT transfers of all time for the collection.

- Owners: The total number of owners for NFTs in the collection.

- Total Assets: The total number of NFTs within the collection.

2. Top Mints: This subsection displays the most active NFT minters on the Ethereum blockchain. The following metrics are displayed for each minter:

- Collection: The name of the NFT collection.

- Type: The type of NFT token, either ERC-721 or ERC-1155.

- Mints: The total number of NFTs minted by the minter within a specified timeframe.

- Unique Minters: The total number of unique minters for the collection.

- Total Owners: The total number of owners for NFTs in the collection.

- Total Assets: The total number of NFTs within the collection.

Users can also track these metrics according to different time frames as shown in the diagram.

3. Latest Trades: This subsection displays the most recent trades that have occurred on supported marketplaces.

The following metrics are displayed for each trade:

- Transfer Info: The transaction hash and block number associated with the trade.

- Age: The time elapsed since the trade was executed.

- Action: Whether it was a buy or sell action.

- Price: The price at which the NFT was traded.

- Market: The marketplace where the trade occurred.

- Buyer: The address buying and receiving the NFT.

- Type: Classification of the NFT token type, either ERC-721 or ERC-1155.

- Item: This shows the specific NFT that was traded.

NFT trades can be sort be Marketplace.

4. Latest Transfers: This subsection displays the most recent transfers that have occurred on supported marketplaces.

The following metrics are displayed for each transfer:

- Transfer Info: The transaction hash and block number associated with the transfer.

- Method: This shows whether it was a transfer, approval, or minting action.

- Age: The time elapsed since the transfer was executed.

- From: This shows the address that initiated the transfer.

- To: This shows the recipient address of the transfer.

- Type: Classification of the NFT token type, either ERC-721 or ERC-1155.

- Item: This shows the specific NFT that was transferred.

5. Latest Mints: This subsection displays the most recent mints that have occurred on supported marketplaces.

The following metrics are displayed for each mint:

- Transfer Info: The transaction hash and block number associated with the minting action.

- Age: The time elapsed since the minting action was executed.

- Maker: This shows the address that initiated the minting action.

- Type: Classification of the NFT token type, either ERC-721 or ERC-1155.

- Item: This shows the specific NFT that was minted.
