Gee Em NODO family, in the first episode of this series, we gave a general overview of Etherscan and its sections. As promised, we’ll discuss each section of the explorer in detail.

Charity, they say begins at home, the same applies here. We’ll be kicking off from the Home section.

The Home Section.

This page is the default page of etherscan. It allows users to explore various on-chain data and activities. The information found here is;

1. ETH Price and Gas can be found at the top left corner of the screen. Gas is the fee needed to carry out a transaction on the Ethereum network. It is measured in gigawei, popularly called Gwei.

2. A search bar: This allows users to look up addresses, Transaction Hash, Tokens, and Blocks.

3. ETHER Prices in US Dollars and BTC

4. MARKET CAP: The current Market Capitalization of ETH. Market Capitalization is the total value of all the tokens of a cryptocurrency in circulation. It is calculated by multiplying the current price of one token by the total number of tokens in existence

5. TRANSACTIONS: This shows the total transactions in the network with the Transaction Per Second (TPS) in parentheses. TPS is a measure of how many transactions the network can process in a second.

6. MED GAS PRICE: The Median gas price.

7. LAST FINALIZED BLOCK: This refers to the most recent block that has been confirmed by one-third of the validators on the Ethereum network.

Note: A block is a collection of transactions that are validated by the network.

8. LAST SAFE BLOCK: The last safe block is the most recent block that has been validated by two-thirds of the validators. It is unlikely to be reverted.

9. TRANSACTION HISTORY IN 14 DAYS

10. Latest Blocks: This section shows the blocks that are included in the Ethereum blockchain. This section is made up of:

The block height: This is the block number. It began counting from the Genesis block (the first-ever block on the blockchain).
Timestamp
Validator that received the block reward.
The number of transactions in that particular block
The time it took to validate the block
The reward for validating the block.

11. Latest Transactions: Shows the transactions that are executed on the Ethereum network. The information that can be obtained here are viz;

The transaction hash: A unique transaction ID used to identify the details of a transaction.
Timestamp.
Sender's wallet address.
The receiver's wallet address.
The amount of tokens sent.
