South Korea has announced intentions to provide its population with skills in blockchain technology, artificial intelligence (AI), and quantum computing as part of its efforts to strengthen its digital economy.

The goal of the five-year plan to introduce digital skills is to broaden the talent pool, according to the Ministry of Science and ICT (MSIT). South Korea's "Comprehensive Plan to Nurture Digital Talent" is its secret weapon to catch up to rival jurisdictions in the field of emerging technologies.

There are now about 99,000 people in South Korea who possess digital talents, but some analysts anticipate that need for digital expertise will rise. It is anticipated that in five years, the need for workers with digital talent will climb to 738,000 across many verticals.

The government says it would seek inside to satisfy the growing demand, even if it means opening the floodgates to foreigners to meet demand.

Although training a million people is no small task, the Ministry of Science and ICT in South Korea has started the process with a framework. The national high school and postsecondary education curricula will be completely redesigned, according to the government.

According to the plan, cybersecurity, blockchain, AI, and metaverse courses will be added, and students will be able to obtain bachelor's or doctoral degrees in these areas. Additionally, the initiative would implement "company-centric" training programmes designed to serve as a talent pipeline for industry participants.
