In a surprising twist following the conviction of Hunter Biden, the son of U.S. President Joe Biden, several Biden-themed Solana memecoins saw brief but significant spikes in their values. This comes after a Delaware federal court found Hunter Biden guilty on three charges related to a 2018 gun purchase.

The token "Jeo Boden" (BODEN), a deliberately misspelled reference to President Biden, surged by 26%, reaching a 24-hour high of nearly $0.20 within five hours of the June 11 verdict, according to CoinGecko data. Similarly, the "Hunter Boden" (HUNTBODEN) token saw a remarkable increase of 116%, peaking at $0.0022. In contrast, the "Jill Boden" (JILLBODEN) token, themed after the First Lady, experienced a 9% dip during the same period.

Despite the initial rally, the prices of these tokens did not maintain their upward trajectory. BODEN and HUNTBODEN fell by 6% and nearly 54%, respectively, over the following 24 hours, while JILLBODEN continued its downward trend, falling by 14.7%.

The market capitalization of these tokens also highlights their relative scale. HUNTBODEN, for instance, has a market cap of under $583,000, significantly smaller compared to BODEN's market cap of over $124.6 million, as per GeckoTerminal.

Hunter Biden's legal troubles stem from his false declaration on a 2018 form that he was not a drug user when purchasing a Colt revolver. As a recovering crack cocaine addict, he was found guilty of lying about his drug use status and keeping the gun for 11 days, now facing a potential maximum sentence of 25 years in prison.

Interestingly, the volatility wasn't confined to Biden-themed tokens. The "Doland Tremp" (TREMP) token, a similarly misspelled memecoin referencing President Biden's political rival Donald Trump, dropped over 12% to $0.93 on the day of the verdict.

These fluctuations in memecoin prices coincided with a broader market downturn. Major meme tokens such as Dogecoin (DOGE), Shiba Inu (SHIB), and Dogwifhat (WIF) experienced drops of over 5% in the last day. Pepe (PEPE) was the outlier, with a slight gain of over 5.5%. Concurrently, the leading cryptocurrencies Bitcoin (BTC) and Ether (ETH) saw respective declines of 3% and 4.5%, with BTC trading at $67,395 and ETH at $3,503, according to Cointelegraph Markets Pro.
