Boom, a blockchain-based e-commerce and digital payments platform, has launched a groundbreaking initiative to provide food relief to two million Nigerians. The Boomcoin-To-Meals (B2M) initiative aims to address the immediate needs of those facing food insecurity by airdropping 1 Boomcoin (BMC) each to 2 million Nigerians.

Boom Foundation has allocated 1 million BMC for this initiative and is encouraging public donations by matching every donated BMC 1:1, up to an additional 500,000 BMC. This effort seeks to raise NGN12 Billion to fund food packages for those in need, demonstrating the power of blockchain technology to deliver immediate aid during crises.

The humanitarian situation in Nigeria is dire, with headline inflation reaching a staggering 31.7% in February. As a result, nearly 22 million people, or one in ten Nigerians, are currently unable to feed themselves and their families. Peter Alfred-Adekeye, Founder and CEO of Boom, a Lagos native, recognized the severity of this crisis and initiated the B2M program to alleviate its impact.

To participate in the B2M initiative, Nigerians need to download the Boom app and complete KYC verification. The airdropped BMC can then be used immediately to purchase essential food packages from the Boom marketplace. These food bundles, designed in collaboration with local vendors, are curated to provide enough sustenance for a family for a day and can be either picked up or delivered directly to users' homes.

With a commitment of 1 million BMC, valued at $6.23M or NGN6.23 Billion, Boom Foundation aims to feed 2 million Nigerians for a day. By matching public donations, Boom is inviting everyone, from the crypto community to Nigerians and Africans in the diaspora, to contribute to this vital cause.

Peter Alfred-Adekeye emphasizes that the B2M initiative is not just about immediate relief but also about laying the groundwork for sustainable development and economic stability through blockchain technology. He believes that blockchain has the potential to transform lives in underserved regions like Africa by providing access to financial infrastructure and fostering socio-economic empowerment.
