Each transaction executed 194 smart contracts labeled "REWARD," with the attacker spending only 0.9 ADA per transaction to keep costs minimal. However, the attack was identified mid-way by Philip Disarro, CEO of Anastasia Labs, who shared a countermeasure on social media.

Disarro explained that the attack was ineffective due to Cardano's design, which allows it to handle large amounts of data. Although validators had to process extra scripts, the network's performance was not significantly impacted. He suggested deregistering the stake credentials used in the attack, which would cost the attacker additional ADA to restart. This move would also immediately stop the DDoS attack.

The attack ceased after the attacker read Disarro's tweet, but it was too late. Disarro and other developers had already begun reclaiming the stolen ADA. The attacker's plan ultimately backfired, with the funds being donated to open-source smart contract development work and funding Midgard. While some stake pool operators reported minor impacts on transaction timings and chain density, the Cardano blockchain continued to function normally.
