Sarah idahosa is a member of a small but select group of prominent individuals in the crypto space in Africa who are distinguishable by their name.

She is a web 3 educator, token Economist, decentralized finance teacher and Founder of Women In Defi, one of Africa's biggest women led communities in decentralized finance which is primarily teaching women how to use blockchain Technology to empower themselves.

Upon earning her microbiology certificate, she resolved to seize control of her fate and transform herself into a DeFi leader.

Early Years and Schooling

Sarah Idahosa is a 24 year old lady born on 7th September, 1999 in Delta State, Nigeria. She hails from Edo state, Nigeria.

She is an alumnus of Federal Polytechnic, Auchi where she majored in Microbiology and obtained a Higher National Diploma (HND) in 2021.

Crypto Career

Beyond her academic credentials, Sarah was determined to swiftly secure her financial independence and begin earning a living.

She became involved in various financial referral programs and eventually stumbled upon a blockchain-based program utilizing smart contracts, even though she was unfamiliar with the industry at the time.

Sarah Idahosa hastily sold off her Ethereum holdings, missing out on potential profits as the value surged. This experience marked a turning point for her. She made a conscious commitment to educate herself about the blockchain industry and its operations. As a result, she enrolled in Nirvana Academy, solidifying her choice to transition into a new career.

Since then, she has continued to climb the ladder of success in the industry.

She started as a tutor at the academy she had learned from. She is still a member of the core team till date which has trained over 2000 students on decentralized finance and web 3 intricacies.

Her proficiency in speaking secured her a position at Mara, initially starting as a spokesperson to raise awareness about the company and its products. Eventually, she advanced to the role of heading the Nigerian token and community team.

Sarah has presented at various high-profile events like Nigerian fintech week, swiftmotion media event, GDG DEVFEST Lagos, Africa Money and Defi summit, in Ghana. She has also previously worked with top tech brands such as Myth of Money and Africa Tech Summit, Nairobi.

She is currently working at Cassava Network where she onboards communities into the platform.

Women in Defi

As a leader, mentor and innovator, she is passionate about women empowerment and inclusion.

She is the founder of WomenInDeFi, which educates women about blockchain technology and how to leverage their skills in the Web3 ecosystem.

In her opinion, she discovered that there weren't many females in the blockchain sector in Africa and this birthed her passion in setting up a platform to bridge the knowledge gap especially in Nigeria.

The mentorship program, which is only for women, offers the chance to learn about financial freedom with Decentralized Finance.

Nonetheless, she maintains that there are community events initially designed for women but are now open to both genders. Since these events are public and prioritize learning, men have embraced the concept and actively participate.

Besides disseminating community engagement and trading expertise, Women In DeFi also imparts additional skill sets that can be invaluable for women when they explore various career opportunities within the blockchain industry.

So far women in defi has 15+ chapters across Nigeria and hosts Codes, Charts And Cocktails conference yearly which is one of the biggest blockchain events in Nigeria.

Profits gained

Since its inception in 2022, the community has trained over 2000+ women.

She focuses on making an impact, and she sees this training as a platform for these women to better themselves, use the blockchain to build a career, and achieve financial independence.

While the mentorship program is free,

Sarah is actively seeking potential investors and funding avenues, as the community is currently reliant on self-funding.

In October 2023, Women in Defi got her first official award from the office of Directorate of Publicity, Federal Polytechnic Nekede, Nigeria.

In April, 2023, Women in Defi participated in a gitcoin beta grant.

In October, 2023 Women in Defi was announced the winner of Nodo Wave 15 grant.

As stated in an interview, Sarah's sole reward/profile for mentoring these women is the gratification of witnessing them progress from having very little to accumulating several thousand dollars in their savings, thus contributing to the reduction of Nigeria's unemployment rate.

Furthermore, as a DeFi industry expert, she believes that incorporating the blockchain sector into Nigeria's fintech industry can facilitate access to digital assets and financial technology for underserved individuals, eliminating traditional barriers.

With the introduction of the eNaira and the widespread global integration of blockchain technologies in other nations, she anticipates significant progress in Nigeria's adoption rate over the next few years.
