The Celo community, in a pivotal decision-making process, has given the green light to adopt Optimism's OP Stack technology for the migration of its current standalone blockchain onto a layer-2 network built atop Ethereum.

This significant move comes after a thorough and inclusive voting procedure, which witnessed an overwhelming show of support from 65 addresses collectively representing 14.6 million CELO tokens. Notably, while the vast majority signaled approval, two addresses opted to abstain from the decision.

This transition, considered tantamount to an existential transformation within the Celo ecosystem, will not be an immediate implementation. Instead, it awaits the completion of necessary upgrades from the network's validators, ensuring a smooth and seamless transition process. The decision to adopt OP Stack comes after an extensive evaluation period, during which Celo meticulously assessed various layer-2 solutions available in the market.

The process was akin to a closely-watched competition, with different technologies vying for the opportunity to serve as the backbone of Celo's future operations. Ultimately, after careful consideration, Celo reaffirmed its initial inclination towards OP Stack, citing its compatibility with the platform's unique features and its battle-tested nature across multiple production chains.
