In a recent analysis conducted by CertiK, the damage incurred from cybersecurity incidents in April 2024 amounted to $25.7 million, marking the lowest figure observed since 2021. CertiK experts highlighted a notable decrease in losses due to cybersecurity exploits, which plummeted by 141% compared to March.

Hacks remained the primary source of losses, accounting for $21 million compromised in decentralized finance (DeFi) attacks. Notably, the FixedFloat project fell victim to a significant attack earlier in the month, with the same perpetrators responsible for a prior compromise in February 2024.

Exit scams emerged as the second most costly exploit, resulting in a total loss of $4.3 million, while instant loans incurred losses of $129,000, ranking third in this category.

Of particular concern was the absence of crypto casino ZKasino from the report, as its rug pull incident remained unconfirmed. Estimates suggest a potential loss of $32 million in the suspected scam, with the ZKasino team allegedly collecting 10,515 ETH during the ZKAS token presale. On April 20, funds were transferred to another address, withdrawals were blocked, and the associated Telegram group was closed.

Despite the decline in incidents, data from DefiLlama indicated that total losses from cryptocurrency hacks surpassed $7.7 billion as of April 1. Defi protocols bore the brunt of these losses, with hackers siphoning $5.8 billion from the sector over seven years, underscoring the persistent vulnerability of decentralized finance platforms to cyber threats.
