Charles Hoskinson, the visionary behind Cardano and CEO of IOHK, recently shared his perspective on the emergence of the community association PRAGMA.

In a statement dated April 22, Hoskinson praised PRAGMA for its dedication to bolstering Cardano-related projects, underscoring the significance of fostering "multiple clients and a diverse and resilient ecosystem" for the advancement of Cardano.

He expressed enthusiasm for witnessing diverse groups collaborate to initiate the development of these clients and projects.

While admitting to being unfamiliar with PRAGMA until recently, Hoskinson clarified that he hasn't engaged formally with the group on various matters. Nonetheless, he acknowledged PRAGMA's role in fortifying Cardano's formal specifications by enhancing resilience and introducing an extra layer of scrutiny.

The Cardano Foundation introduced PRAGMA on April 22, characterizing it as a nonprofit, open-source association focused on blockchain software development. Unlike a funding platform, PRAGMA expects participants to independently secure funding to ensure its sustainability in the long term.

Comprising the Cardano Foundation and four other members—Blink Labs, dcSpark, Sundae Labs, and TxPipe—PRAGMA sets itself apart from Intersect, another Cardano member-based organization, by prioritizing open-source software development over governance.

While PRAGMA and Intersect maintain their distinct identities, they perceive their efforts as complementary and anticipate potential collaboration down the line.

PRAGMA aims to strengthen the Cardano ecosystem by hosting and supporting existing projects, nurturing the development of new tools, and serving as a focal point for blockchain initiatives.

Initially, PRAGMA will focus on two projects: Amaru, a Rust-based node for Cardano, and Aiken, a smart contract platform for Cardano.

By 2025, PRAGMA intends to broaden its membership to selected entities within the Cardano ecosystem and subsequently expand its scope to external blockchain ecosystems, signaling its commitment beyond the confines of Cardano alone.
