CleanSpark, an American Bitcoin mining company focused on clean energy, has announced a definitive agreement to acquire five mining facilities in Georgia. According to a June 18 announcement, the $25.8 million deal is set to close immediately, with the combined facilities expected to exceed 3.7 exahashes per second (EH/s) in processing power.

The newly acquired mining sites range in operational capacity from 8 to 15 megawatts, totaling 60 megawatts. CleanSpark representatives are confident that the company’s overall hashrate will increase to over 20 EH/s by the end of June. Additionally, the facilities include interruptible-load designated power purchase agreements (PPAs) to help balance the local electrical grid.

CleanSpark CEO Zach Bradford emphasized the strategic benefits of the acquisition, noting that these sites will enhance local load-balancing capabilities and help achieve the company’s mid-year target of 20 EH/s in operating hashrate.

The acquisition comes amid heightened attention on the U.S. Bitcoin mining industry, spurred by former President Donald Trump's recent advocacy for Bitcoin production in the U.S. Trump has suggested that Bitcoin could be America's "last line of defense" against central bank digital currencies (CBDCs) and a means to enhance U.S. energy dominance.

In the wake of Trump’s support, there has been varied reaction within the crypto community, with some viewing his comments as political maneuvering, while others, like Shapeshift founder Erik Vorhees, see it as a positive sign for the industry.

Responding to Trump’s engagement, executives from Marathon Digital Holdings, CleanSpark, and Riot Platforms have launched "The Bitcoin Voter Project." This non-partisan 501(c)(4) nonprofit aims to educate voters about the digital asset market and blockchain industry, without endorsing specific candidates or political parties, reflecting a broader effort to raise awareness and understanding of the rapidly evolving crypto sector.
