Block Scholes, a provider of institutional Bitcoin data, foresees a unique impact from the upcoming Bitcoin halving on the network's performance. They expect a rapid 25% decrease in the network's hash rate within the initial two weeks post-halving, which they believe will affect the difficulty adjustment differently compared to previous halving events.

Eamonn Gashier, the Founder and CEO of Block Scholes, emphasized that despite an immediate reduction in rewards, the total block reward typically returns to pre-halving levels several months after the event. Gashier noted that the upcoming halving will see the shortest wait time for miners to face a difficulty adjustment, with 672 blocks before adjustment. He also highlighted the anticipation of a significant drop in hash rate post-halving, potentially taking longer to recover due to its substantial impact on miner revenue and the wait time for a significant difficulty adjustment.

In the long run, Block Scholes predicts the hash rate to continue growing exponentially, albeit at a slower pace, driven by high miner rewards and adjustments in mining difficulty to offset the reduced block reward.

Meanwhile, CleanSpark Inc. has significantly boosted its mining capabilities, reaching a new high of over 17 exahashes per second (EH/s) as its recently acquired data center in Dalton, GA, begins operations. The company has also opted to upgrade and purchase 100,000 Bitmain S21 Pros, increasing its total purchased hash rate by 17% to 23.4 EH/s.

CEO Zach Bradford explained that this strategic move aims to improve efficiency ahead of the halving, considering efficiency as the crucial factor. The upgrade to the S21 Pro model, which operates at 15 joules per terahash, represents a 14% efficiency improvement over the S21 model. CleanSpark believes this efficiency increase will potentially boost its market share post-halving while reducing overall network energy consumption.

With the halving approaching, both CleanSpark and the broader Bitcoin mining industry may undergo significant shifts, including unprecedented price discovery within the current Bitcoin cycle.
