Coinbase's institutional-facing subsidiary has unveiled its strategy to introduce perpetual futures contracts for the BRC-20 tokens Ordinals and Worldcoin on April 11.

In a recent post dated April 5, Coinbase International Exchange disclosed its intention to roll out perpetual futures offerings for ORDI and WLD starting as early as April 11, extending accessibility to institutional investors on both Coinbase International and Coinbase Advanced platforms.

The tokens ORDI and WLD have garnered significant attention due to notable price fluctuations and heightened trading activity in recent months.

Worldcoin swiftly emerged as a favored asset among cryptocurrency investors seeking exposure to the burgeoning field of artificial intelligence, experiencing a remarkable ascent from $2.20 on February 7 to a peak of $11.70 on March 10, as per data from CoinMarketCap.

Worldcoin is positioned to establish itself as a leading privacy-preserving human identification and financial network, advocating for universal ownership. Founded in 2019 by Sam Altman, Max Novendstern, and Alex Blania, Worldcoin's native token, WLD, serves as a utility token endowed with governance attributes, empowering users to shape the protocol's trajectory.

ORDI witnessed an astonishing surge of 1,640% from $5 on November 1, 2023, to a pinnacle of $87 on March 5, fueled by fervent interest in Ordinals-related assets towards the end of last year.

ORDI, a cryptocurrency rooted in the Bitcoin protocol, facilitates the creation of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) and tokens representing textual and visual content. The Ordinals protocol embeds information into each Satoshi, encompassing text, images, audio, and video, with the majority of ORDI tokens distributed via airdrops to users.

The April 5 announcement forms part of a broader initiative to introduce a plethora of new perpetual futures contracts through Coinbase's international arm, catering to the institutional clientele.

Perpetual futures, also recognized as perpetual swaps or perpetuals, constitute derivative contracts enabling traders to speculate on an asset's future price trajectory sans a defined expiration date. The regulatory approval process for futures contracts hinges on compliance with applicable regulatory frameworks.

On April 4, Coinbase International Exchange commenced offering futures contracts for Wormhole's native W (W) coin, concurrently announcing an $850 million airdrop to early adopters of the cross-chain bridge.

Meanwhile, on March 21, Coinbase discreetly disclosed plans to launch futures contracts for both Litecoin and the meme-inspired Dogecoin, underscoring their evolution beyond their initial status as online novelties to established digital currencies.

Of significance, Coinbase expressed intent to utilize the "self-certification" mechanism to introduce futures contracts prior to obtaining formal endorsement from the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, provided adherence to regulatory guidelines.
