Ethereum layer-2 network powered by Coinbase High transaction per second (TPS) throughput has been achieved by Base, according to Jesse Pollak, the company's head of protocols.

Pollak stated that throughput was reaching 300–400 TPS in a post dated April 9 to X, and that this was happening “with no issues.”

However, according to Chainspect, the layer-2 blockchain backed by Coinbase has a maximum recorded TPS of 292 and a real-time TPS of 26.8.

According to Layer-2 ecosystem analytics tool L2Beat, Base's average transactions per second (TPS) more than doubled Ethereum's 14 TPS to 37 on April 8.

In a response to Pollak’s original post on X, pseudonymous trader Wazz claimed that if Pollak’s observations were accurate, then the network could be achieving a similar TPS to the Solana network.

“Correct me if I’m wrong but if true then Base is now doing the same TPS as Solana.”

Wazz added that around 60% of Solana’s reported 1,000 TPS were failed transactions, meaning that the actual TPS was closer to 400.

Solana-based Helius Labs CEO Mert Mumtaz questioned Pollak’s TPS figures, arguing that failed transactions were not included in the Base figures.

He added that the biggest Base block in the data provided had 94% failed transactions, resulting in a real TPS of 41.

The results coincide with growing hostilities between supporters of the Solana network and proponents of Ethereum layer-2 scaling options. Vocal complaints of poor user experience, unsuccessful transactions, and other reliability difficulties have dogged Solana in recent weeks.

Mumtaz has previously asserted that a particular networking protocol implementation error, rather than a basic design defect, is the cause of Solana's current problems.
