The long-awaited Bitcoin halving is just a few hours away, and the excitement around it has reached new heights, according to data from blockchain analytics platform Santiment. The halving, which is expected to happen within the next 12 hours, has seen a significant surge in social volume and dominance, with the latter reaching a record-breaking 3.87% of crypto social activity.

Throughout 2024, the halving has been a hot topic, with spikes in volume in February and March, followed by a steady increase in April. However, its dominance in the broader crypto conversation has only recently gained traction, with interest doubling in the past week. This surge in interest has coincided with a drop in Bitcoin's price, which fell from over $70,000 to as low as $59,000.

Interestingly, the halving has generated varying levels of interest across different social platforms. Mentions on Telegram have plummeted by 90% since the last halving in 2020, while Reddit has seen a consistent increase in halving-related conversations, breaking the 2020 peak several times this year. However, Reddit mentions have also cooled off in recent days and are currently around half the level seen the day before the halving in 2020.

Twitter, on the other hand, has shown a unique pattern, with spikes in activity in May 2022 and June 2023, followed by a recent surge in recent days. Although Twitter mentions have not yet reached the levels seen in 2020, they are currently within 10% of the previous halving's peak.

Meanwhile, Bitcointalk forums have seen sustained but relatively low interest in the halving, with less than half the interest seen in 2020.

Despite the total number of conversations not yet reaching the levels seen during the last halving, the halving is currently a more significant part of the conversation than ever before. Furthermore, Google Trends data suggests that the Bitcoin halving is on track to break all previous records by a significant margin.

As of writing, Bitcoin's price has risen by around 7% to trade at approximately $64,000, as the halving approaches.
