In a significant crackdown, authorities in Shaoxing City, Zhejiang Province, have apprehended a criminal gang for illegally cashing out more than 200,000 yuan within a span of just four days using digital yuan accounts. The gang employed coercive tactics to persuade merchants with digital yuan accounts to facilitate the cashing out process, subsequently converting the funds into virtual currencies for transmission to higher-level members.

The modus operandi involved exploiting the merchants' digital yuan accounts by sending them collection codes, enabling the fraudulent withdrawal of funds. Prior to cashing out, the merchants deducted service fees ranging from 1% to 1.5% of the total amount. Authorities uncovered the illicit activities of the gang, leading to prosecution by the Yuecheng District Procuratorate.

The court subsequently sentenced key perpetrators Yuan, Zhang, and Kou to fixed-term imprisonments ranging from 7 months to 14 months for concealing and laundering criminal proceeds, in addition to imposing fines. This judicial action underscores the severity with which such financial crimes are treated under the law.
