Paolo Ardoino, CEO of Tether, raised concerns on June 5 about a possible security breach involving a crypto mailing list provider. He mentioned on X (formerly Twitter) that Tether had received two separate reports indicating that a major vendor handling mailing lists for crypto firms might have been compromised.

Although Ardoino did not disclose specific details about the breach, he suggested it could be a supply chain attack targeting the crypto industry. Such attacks exploit vulnerabilities in third-party services or tools relied upon by the targeted entity.

Ardoino advised caution to users, particularly warning against emails promising crypto airdrops within the last 24 hours, as they could be part of this potential attack.

In response to Ardoino's alert, several crypto-related companies promptly informed their users about the risk of phishing links that could be distributed through these compromised emails.

CoinGecko's co-founder and COO, Bobby Ong, acknowledged the ongoing supply chain email breach involving an email newsletter vendor. He noted that several crypto companies might be affected, with fraudulent email blasts promoting fake token launches.

Ong urged users not to click on links related to any purported CoinGecko token, emphasizing that CoinGecko has no plans for such a launch. He stated:

"We are actively investigating with our vendor to determine the extent of this breach. Phishing emails falsely claiming to offer a 'CGL token airdrop' have been observed from compromised client accounts. Please be aware that CoinGecko does not issue any tokens and exercise caution regarding such phishing attempts."

CoinGecko also issued an official warning on its social media channels, clarifying its neutral stance as a platform without any officially issued coins or tokens and advising users to be vigilant against phishing attempts.
