Paolo Ardoino, CEO of Tether, raised concerns on June 5 about a possible security breach involving a major crypto mailing list provider. In a social media post on X (formerly Twitter), Ardoino mentioned that Tether had received reports indicating that the vendor responsible for managing mailing lists for various crypto companies might have been compromised.

Although Ardoino did not disclose specific details about the breach, he suggested it could be a supply chain attack aimed at the crypto industry. Such attacks exploit vulnerabilities in third-party services or tools used by the targeted entity.

Ardoino advised caution, particularly regarding emails promising crypto airdrops within the last 24 hours, which could potentially be linked to the attack.

In response to Ardoino’s warning, several crypto-related firms promptly notified their users about the potential threat of phishing links distributed through these compromised emails.

CoinGecko's co-founder and COO, Bobby Ong, acknowledged the ongoing email breach involving the newsletter vendor, confirming that several crypto companies might have been affected by fraudulent email campaigns promoting fake token launches. Ong cautioned users against clicking on links related to any purported CoinGecko token, stressing that CoinGecko has no plans to launch such a token.

CoinGecko issued an official warning on social media, clarifying its neutral stance as an entity that does not issue any coins or tokens officially. Users were urged to remain vigilant against phishing attempts claiming to offer a "CGL token airdrop."
