In a recent cyber attack, Turkish crypto exchange BtcTurk suffered a security breach, resulting in unauthorized access to some of its hot wallets. Although the exchange reported asset losses, it claims to have sufficient financial stability to overcome this setback. The hack has raised concerns in the crypto community, as it represents the second crypto exchange hack in 2024, following the security breach at Japanese platform DMM Bitcoin in May.

BtcTurk detected the hack on June 22 and promptly informed its users. While the total amount lost was not disclosed, the exchange stated that only hot wallets for 10 cryptocurrencies were compromised, and all cold wallets, which hold the majority of its assets, remain safe. Richard Teng, CEO of Binance, announced a collaborative investigation effort between both exchanges, leading to the recovery of $5.3 million worth of stolen assets.

Renowned on-chain investigator ZachXBT has provided insights into the possible identity of the hackers, suggesting an affiliation with a specific address. However, BtcTurk has neither confirmed nor denied this theory. All withdrawal and deposit transactions on the trading platform have been disabled until further notice.

The hack has not affected BtcTurk's robust financial position, and the exchange has assured users of the safety of their assets.
