The regulator has announced that it will be conducting on-site inspections of local virtual asset trading platforms (VATPs) that have not yet completed their regulatory applications.

Eleven crypto firms, including industry giants like OKX and Huobi's local arm, have withdrawn their applications, leaving only 18 applications still awaiting approval.

One such crypto exchange, Gate.HK, has halted all activities related to acquiring new users and marketing, blocked existing users from making deposits, and commenced delisting tokens. The exchange intends to relaunch its services after restructuring its platform to comply with Hong Kong's regulatory requirements.

Hong Kong Embraces Crypto Innovation

Despite the regulatory scrutiny, Hong Kong is also embracing the potential of cryptocurrencies. The city has launched its first batch of ETFs focused on Bitcoin and Ether, marking a significant milestone in the crypto industry.

Harvest Global Investments Ltd., the local unit of China Asset Management, along with a partnership between HashKey Capital Ltd. and Bosera Asset Management (International) Co., have listed these crypto ETFs in Hong Kong. Analysts predict that these funds could amass around $1 billion in assets over the next two years, showcasing the growing demand for regulated crypto investment products.
