Mandatory public disclosures revealed that several prominent figures, including judges and lawmakers, hold varying amounts of Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. This information has become ammunition in the political war chest.

The People's Power Party, aiming to wrest control from the dominant Democratic Party, isn't letting any opportunity slip away. They've targeted Democratic candidate Kim Jun-hyuk, highlighting his Bitcoin holdings worth over $84,000. A senior official questioned the ethicality of owning such a significant amount while the Coin Gate investigation unfolds. Demands for Kim's resignation, coupled with accusations of undisclosed farmland holdings, have added fuel to the fire.

Kim, known for his outspoken views, has countered by criticizing President Yoon's relationship with the US, claiming it could lead to war. This adds another layer of tension to the already heated political climate.

The battle lines aren't confined to national politics. Local elections are mirroring the national trend. In the Sokcho constituency, Democratic candidate Kim Do-gyun is attacking his opponent, Lee Yang-soo, over alleged crypto investments made in his son's name back in 2021. Kim claims these investments, now worth over $18,200 and involving "dozens" of crypto assets, were purely speculative and demands a public inquiry.

Lee, however, isn't taking the accusations lying down. He counters by pointing the finger at Kim Do-gyun's past involvement with a firm called IBP. Lee claims this company, co-founded and majority-owned by Kim, launched its own crypto asset in 2019, with details of the issuance shrouded in secrecy.

With both sides trading accusations and demanding explanations, South Korea's elections are turning into a messy display of crypto-fueled mudslinging. Voters will have to navigate this sea of accusations while deciding who will lead the country forward, with crypto likely remaining a hot-button issue on the national agenda.
