With the coming of Blockchain and the job opportunities it provides, many Cryptocurrency users are taking advantage of it to land remote jobs for themselves. For those of us in Africa, the benefit of having a remote job is much. One undeniable benefit is getting paid in a fiat equivalent (dollars), which is of high value compared to our local currencies. With this advantage, the money we earn from these jobs is increased further when converted to our local currency.

Nevertheless, many Cryptocurrency enthusiasts are still not able to leverage the job opportunities offered by Blockchain. It is not a case of not having the skills but one of not being successful despite the several numbers of interviews they have been through.

The question thus is, what could be wrong?

I used to tell people that having a skill is not sufficient to land a crypto job. You need to have evidence that will convince the hiring company that you have what it takes to handle the position in view. There is no other better way to show this than through the work experience in your CV, and your performance during the interview session.

I know your next question is, how can I have work experience when I am yet to land a job?

The answer is this, you don't necessarily need work experience from only paid jobs. I remember when I started the journey of community management. I started working as an intern, in an unpaid arrangement. By doing so, it gave me the job experience I filled in my CV.

Most times, the problem is that we don't want to start from little. We want to land that high-paying job immediately after we have acquired the needed skills, but the fact is, such high-paying jobs don't come easily, especially when you lack work experience.

What can you do then?

Depending on the skill you have, you can reach out to hiring managers and propose to work for them as an intern and in an unpaid position. The benefits here are that the chances of being accepted are high since the company won't be paying you and they will get to have an extra hand. Secondly, you will get to have work experience you can fill on your CV, and finally, if you are lucky and do very well during the internship, there are higher chances of being upgraded to a paid position. You can also seek internship job opportunities, they are easier to get than full-time ones. Use them to build your portfolio.

Don't spend so much time as an intern and in an unpaid arrangement. A maximum of 6 months is enough and you move to a new project. It might sound funny but believe me by the time you do it with three projects, you have gotten good work experience to fill in. Most importantly, ensure you leave the internship position in a mutual way such that when the company you are applying to later goes to verify your work experience claim, you won't have any challenges being verified.

Another thing you can do to help position yourself for crypto jobs is to work on your CV. It is not about making your CV very attractive. It is more about giving out relevant information regarding the particular job you are applying for. Most people make the mistake of submitting a crowded CV to recruiters.

By a crowded CV, I mean a CV that is filled with several skills unrelated to the particular job you are applying for. Most recruiters don't pay attention to such CVs because, technically, it doesn't reflect expertise. This doesn't mean that having several skills is wrong. You just have to draft out specific CVs for a specific job.

If however, you desire to inform the hiring manager of your other skills, it is ideal that the skills and work experience relating to the particular job you are applying for comes first.

Finally, landing a crypto job requires consistency in job applications. Surely, you will receive tons of rejection emails but do not allow it to discourage you. Also, ensure you prepare for interviews very well. Many job seekers lose their hold on a job during interviews. Do not forget to have a good network because there are some jobs that you can get through recommendations.
