Martin, who served as the Chief Compliance and Ethics Officer at the New York Fed from 2005 to 2022, brings a wealth of experience in regulatory affairs and financial crime prevention. His most recent stint was as the Global Head of Regulatory Affairs & Integrity at crypto-asset firm JST Digital.

Binance.US sees this as a major coup. Norman Reed, the interim CEO, hailed Martin's addition as a reflection of their "commitment to maintaining the highest standards of compliance and integrity." CZ's Regulatory Rumble

This strategic hire comes against the backdrop of a turbulent period for Binance and its charismatic CEO, Changpeng Zhao, better known as "CZ." Just last November, Binance found itself embroiled in a major regulatory spat with US authorities. The exchange was accused of failing to implement adequate anti-money laundering (AML) programs, a violation of the Bank Secrecy Act.

As part of a settlement agreement, CZ was forced to step down from his global role and a hefty $4.3 billion penalty was imposed. To make matters worse, CZ is personally facing the possibility of a 10-year prison sentence, with his official sentencing scheduled for April 30th.
