Pseudonymous cryptocurrency trader GCR has alleged that his X (formerly Twitter) account was hacked through a bribe, leading to a manipulative pump-and-dump scheme involving the ORDI token.

On May 26, GCR, also known as Gigantic Rebirth, reported that his X account was compromised by hackers who used the platform to promote ORDI, a BRC-20 token associated with the Ordinals protocol on the Bitcoin blockchain, and LUNA2, a token designed to aid the recovery of the Terra Luna ecosystem after the UST stablecoin collapse in May 2022.

GCR, a well-known figure in the crypto community, informed his followers of the breach via an alternate X account. He revealed that he had been warned two months earlier by a source affiliated with X that bribes had been offered to gain access to his account. Despite enhancing his security measures, GCR acknowledged that no security is foolproof if X employees can be bribed for administrative access.

In a statement, GCR expressed his frustration:
>"Was notified 2 months ago by someone affiliated with twitter that bribes had been made to get access to my account, and beefed up security then. But there can’t be any security if X employees take money for admin access."

Following the unauthorized post promoting ORDI, the token's price on the Bybit exchange experienced a volatile spike from $38 to $46, before swiftly dropping back to $40 within minutes. This rapid price movement is typical of pump-and-dump schemes, where the price of an asset is artificially inflated to attract buyers before the perpetrators sell off their holdings at the peak, leaving other investors with losses.

As of now, the identity of the hacker remains unknown. However, blockchain investigator ZachXBT noted on his X account that the hacker’s identity might be uncovered within 12-24 hours, due to their poor handling of the stolen funds. ZachXBT highlighted that the hacker "messed up and washed their funds poorly," indicating that the funds could be traced through centralized exchanges.

Reports suggest that the hacker opened significant positions on various centralized exchanges prior to the hack, potentially providing clues to their identity. The incident has raised concerns about the security of accounts on social media platforms and the susceptibility of employees to bribery, which can have serious implications for the integrity of digital asset markets.
