Amidst the turbulence of the crypto market, Crypto.com's investment arm, Crypto.com Capital, is adopting a cautious stance, opting to scale back its investment activity as doubts surrounding market valuations grow.

Reports from Bloomberg reveal that Crypto.com Capital, armed with a hefty $500 million for startup investments in the crypto sector as of January 2022, has exhibited a more conservative approach over the past 18 months. Analysts at Dealroom have observed a notable decline in Crypto.com's investment activity since the beginning of 2023. In contrast to the 35 deals made in the preceding two years, the firm has only engaged in four deals during this period.

Kris Marszalek, CEO of Crypto.com, candidly acknowledged the reduction in funding activities, citing concerns over the inflated valuations touted by project teams. Marszalek stressed the importance of maintaining a level-headed approach in the face of market volatility. While he disclosed that the venture arm has made approximately 70 investments to date, he refrained from providing an exact figure.

Despite exercising caution, recent venture capital deals within the crypto industry have seen substantial amounts raised. Notably, Crypto.com Capital participated in funding Berachain, a blockchain network led by pseudonymous founders, which secured a significant $100 million at a valuation of at least $1 billion.

The prudent strategy adopted by Crypto.com reflects a broader trend in the crypto market, where other companies are also reining in their investment activities. For instance, venture giant Andreessen Horowitz has shifted its focus to artificial intelligence, temporarily diverting attention away from crypto investments.
