The creation of new Bitcoin wallets has reached its lowest point since 2018, signaling a notable decrease in activity. Despite this decline, emerging Bitcoin protocols are capturing significant attention from Venture Capital firms.

Previously, the surge in interest surrounding spot Bitcoin ETFs, advancements within the Bitcoin ecosystem, and the approaching halving event had propelled the weekly influx of new Bitcoin addresses to nearly record highs about six months ago. However, mirroring the trend seen in early 2018, the number of new addresses entering the network has dwindled as enthusiasm for fresh Bitcoin initiatives has subsided.

Data Reflecting the Downturn

Recent data highlights a stark contrast, with an average of only 275,000 addresses being added to the Bitcoin network daily in the past week, a sharp drop from the 625,000 new addresses added each day half a year ago. Additionally, related indicators such as miner revenue linked to hash rate have also hit all-time lows. Transaction fees within the network and on-chain volume metrics have experienced a decline as well.
