The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has declared war on decentralized finance (DeFi), and Uniswap Labs is the first major casualty. Last month, the SEC issued a Wells Notice to Uniswap, the largest decentralized exchange, signaling its intention to bring charges against the platform's developers. This move has sent shockwaves through the DeFi community, causing a significant decline in the sector's market capitalization.

Uniswap's governance token, UNI, has taken a hit, plummeting from $11.60 to $6.43 in the wake of the Wells Notice. While it has stabilized at around $7, the token's value remains uncertain. The SEC's crypto crackdown has also targeted Consensys and Robinhood's crypto arm, sending Wells Notices to these companies as well.

Despite the challenges, Robinhood reported a 224% increase in crypto trading volume in the first quarter, indicating that investor interest in digital assets remains strong. However, the DeFi sector's dominance has dropped to a historic low of 3.63%, a level not seen since the Terra Luna collapse in June 2022.
