Deutsche Telekom, Europe's largest telecommunications provider, is venturing into Bitcoin mining, building on its existing involvement in the cryptocurrency space. Dirk Röder, head of Web3 infrastructure and solutions at T-Systems MMS, a subsidiary of Deutsche Telekom, revealed the plans at the BTC Prague conference.

Deutsche Telekom has been operating a Bitcoin node since 2023 and also runs Bitcoin Lightning nodes. Röder announced that the company will soon engage in "digital monetary photosynthesis" - a term he used to refer to Bitcoin mining. When asked to confirm if T-Mobile, a subsidiary of Deutsche Telekom, would be mining Bitcoin, Röder replied, "We will."

This move expands Deutsche Telekom's crypto activities, which already include node operations and investment partnerships with various blockchains like Polkadot, Flow, Celo, and Ethereum. The company has also made direct investments in some of these protocols' tokens and supports other blockchain networks like Polygon and Chainlink.
