EigenLayer, a well-known decentralized infrastructure provider, has announced a significant security enhancement for its EigenDA platform. This update aims to bolster defenses against Sybil and Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks by implementing Whitelist Security mechanisms.

### Security Upgrade for EigenDA Platform

Over the weekend, EigenLayer revealed plans to enhance EigenDA's security with Whitelist Security measures to counteract potential Sybil and DDoS attacks. This initiative is part of EigenLayer’s broader strategy to fortify its network and ensure a stable environment for users and developers.

The platform stated that to ensure improved security and safe access, the whitelist mechanism uses either an Internet Protocol (IP) address or Ethereum’s Elliptic Curve Digital Signature Algorithm (ECDSA) authentication. In the evolving world of decentralized applications and blockchain technology, these measures are crucial for maintaining network reliability and integrity. By pre-approving trusted nodes and users, the whitelist security approach minimizes the risk of malicious actors disrupting operations with Sybil or DDoS attacks.

EigenLayer’s current permissionless tier offers 6 blobs of 128KB per batch, totaling 768KB every 10 minutes, surpassing the capacity used by most Ethereum rollups like Base. Notably, EigenDA can handle load testing on the mainnet at peak throughputs of up to 10 MB/s, generating 0.6 MB of synthetic load per second compared to Ethereum’s 4844 blob throughput and Celestia mainnet’s 0.032 MB/s.

The platform is also developing permissionless payments for EigenDA’s blob throughput, set to launch later this year. This system will offer reserved bandwidth for high throughput use cases at a fixed rate.

### Second Phase Airdrop for LRT Users

This security update follows the recent launch of the second phase of EigenDA’s season 1 airdrop for Liquid Restaking Tokens (LRTs) users. Users who interacted with Kelp, Pendle, and Equilibrium LRT protocols can now claim their tokens.

EigenLayer reserved allocations for each LRT procedure based on interactions with the platform, applying no fines and maintaining the same standards as in Phase 1. The EIGEN stake drop was determined by each LRT protocol concerning its end user, using Sybil and risk assessments to identify eligible addresses and claims.

Users who engaged with these protocols before March 15 are eligible to claim their tokens by September 7. Additionally, participants from the first phase of the stakedrop are also eligible to claim, and new phase 2 participants who staked before March 15 will receive an additional 100 EIGEN.
