The Eigen Foundation has officially opened claims for the second phase of its first season stakedrop, allowing users of liquid restaking protocols (LRTs) integrated with EigenLayer to claim their tokens. This phase targets users of protocols such as Kelp, Pendle, and Equilibrium, who had restaked their ETH before the snapshot date of March 15, 2024. The claim window will remain open until September 7, 2024.

In this second phase, the foundation has allocated tokens based on user interactions with EigenLayer, similar to the criteria used in phase one, but with the added bonus of 100 Eigen tokens for eligible wallets. The first phase concluded last month and distributed nearly 113 million Eigen tokens from the total supply of 1.67 billion tokens at launch. Throughout the first season, 5% of the total token supply was handed out to users based on their staking activities as of the snapshot date.

While the airdropped Eigen tokens from the first season are claimable, they are currently non-transferable. The foundation aims to enable transfers by September 2024. In the meantime, users can stake and delegate their tokens. Additionally, season 2 of the stakedrop is now underway, with details to be released in the coming weeks. The second season will follow a similar distribution pattern, allocating another 5% of the token supply to participants.

Specific allocations for each LRT were determined based on their interactions with EigenLayer, and Sybil checks were conducted to finalize eligible addresses and claims. EigenLayer, launched in June 2023, is a platform that allows users to deposit and "re-stake" ether from various liquid staking tokens to secure third-party networks or actively validated services. Since its inception, approximately $18.5 billion worth of ether has been staked on the platform, according to data from The Block's dashboard.

In addition to the Eigen token, the project is introducing a new crypto-economic security system known as inter-subjective forking, designed to complement ether restaking.
