According to Rachel Lin, co-founder of SynFutures, the highest open interest for ether options is currently in the June $5,000-call option. This observation is corroborated by data from the Deribit derivatives exchange, which indicates that the largest concentration of ether options open interest is in calls at a strike price of $5,000.

Further analysis from QCP Capital reveals that traders are engaging in bullish call spreads between $4,000 and $5,000, both expiring at the end of June 2024. This strategy involves buying call options with a $4,000 strike price and selling call options with a $5,000 strike price. The aim is to profit from a potential price rise within this range.

QCP Capital analysts noted substantial activity in ether call spreads for the end-of-June expiry, indicating bullish sentiment. Rachel Lin added that the open interest for ether options is currently "65% for calls versus 35% for puts," with Deribit data showing a put-call ratio of 0.56. A put-call ratio below one signifies that call option volume exceeds put option volume, highlighting bullish market sentiment.

Lin stated, "The options market has a bullish outlook for June, even as the spot market consolidates. If the current trend persists, we may be on the brink of another bullish rally in the near future."

Despite the bullish outlook in the options market, there are signs of caution. The Block’s Data Dashboard indicates an increase in the put-call ratio for ether options over the past week across multiple derivatives exchanges. This uptick follows the approval of spot ether exchange-traded funds (ETFs) by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), suggesting that some traders are hedging against potential downsides if these financial products are delayed in launching.

The SEC approved ether spot ETFs on May 23, but unlike bitcoin ETFs, which started trading shortly after approval, ether ETFs may not go live for several weeks or months. QCP Capital analysts noted that a potential price breakout for ether will likely depend on further clarity regarding the S-1 approvals for these ETFs.

As of 5:27 a.m. ET, ether's price increased by a modest 0.22%, trading at $3,728, according to The Block’s Price Page. The GM 30 Index, which represents a selection of the top 30 cryptocurrencies, also saw a slight increase of 0.3%, reaching 143.29 during the same period.
