The race to launch spot Ethereum exchange-traded funds (ETFs) is heating up, with major fund management companies like Fidelity, Grayscale, and VanEck making significant strides in their preparations.

Cboe BZX, a leading stock exchange, has updated its 19b-4 filings for five spot Ethereum ETF applications, indicating the growing momentum in the industry. VanEck's ETH ETF fund has been listed on the Depository Trust and Clearing Corporation's (DTCC) website, a crucial step in the preparation process. Additionally, Fidelity and Grayscale have amended their applications to exclude staking, a move that suggests they are adapting their strategies to align with regulatory requirements.

The updated filings for the VanEck Ethereum Trust, Franklin Ethereum Trust, Invesco Galaxy Ethereum ETF, ARK 21Shares Ethereum ETF, and Fidelity Ethereum Fund by Cboe BZX towards the end of May 21 have fueled optimism in the market. Analysts believe that the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) is making progress in preparing for the potential launch of spot ETH ETFs this month.

However, James Seyffart, a Bloomberg ETF analyst, cautions that there is still a long way to go before the actual launch of these ETFs. He emphasizes that while the updated filings prove the accuracy of the rumors and speculation, the SEC still needs to approve the 19b-4s and the S-1 filings before the ETFs can be launched. This process could take several weeks or more.

Despite the challenges, the preparations by the applicants are now in full swing. VanEck's fund has been listed on the DTCC's website, which is part of the preparation process but does not confirm the fund's full launch. The listing has been marked with an "N" under the list's create/redeem column, indicating that the fund is still in the works.

Grayscale and Fidelity have also made significant changes to their applications. Both asset managers have updated their filings to exclude the proposal to allow investors to stake ETH through their respective funds. This move suggests that they are adapting their strategies to meet regulatory requirements and increase the likelihood of SEC approval.

As the industry eagerly awaits the SEC's decision, the preparations by these leading asset managers demonstrate their commitment to bringing spot Ethereum ETFs to the market.
