In a historic decision, the SEC approved spot Bitcoin ETFs in January, and now the focus has shifted to Ethereum. Following the SEC's surprise approval of 19b-4 forms from spot Ethereum ETF applicants in May, issuers are making last-minute changes to their S-1 filings. The latest batch of amendments includes filings from 21Shares, BlackRock, Fidelity, and VanEck, revealing seed capital and fee details.

The seed capital, ranging from $340k to $10 million, is the initial investment that enables an ETF to launch and be traded. It is designed to cover operational costs and establish a base asset under management level, speaking directly to the fund's liquidity and building investor confidence. VanEck's seed capital remains undisclosed, but its fee of 0.20% has been revealed, which Senior Bloomberg ETF Analyst Eric Balchunas describes as "pretty damn low."

Balchunas suggests that VanEck's low fee may pressure other issuers to follow suit, adding pressure on BlackRock to stay competitive. With BlackRock dominating Bitcoin ETF inflows, other issuers may need to offer competitive fees to stay in the game. Despite the flurry of amendments, Balchunas and his colleague James Seyffart are sticking to their July 2 prediction for S-1 approval.
