This decrease in gas fees is attributed to the introduction of blobs in the post-Dencun Ethereum network, optimizing network usage and making on-chain operations more cost-effective.

As of today, the average gas fee on the Ethereum network stands at 6 Gwei, the lowest level since January 2020. This substantial reduction in gas fees has made all on-chain operations significantly cheaper for users. For instance, users can now swap assets for a mere $5 commission, while cross-chain bridging and minting non-fungible tokens (NFTs) are available at $2 and $9, respectively.

In terms of USD-denominated gas fees, today's prices mark the lowest in six months, with the last instance of such low fees recorded in November 2023. This drop in fees can be attributed to both the effects of the Cancun-Deneb (Dencun) upgrade and the overall decrease in on-chain activity on Ethereum.

Since the activation of Dencun in mid-March 2024, USD-denominated Ethereum gas fees have plummeted by 15 times, from $30 to $2, as reported by BitInfoCharts. Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin has proposed the next radical upgrade for the gas mechanism, introducing the concept of multi-dimensional gas. This upgrade aims to fine-tune Ethereum's management of different resources, potentially increasing throughput without compromising safety.
