Transaction volumes for popular Ethereum-based meme tokens like Pepe (PEPE), Shiba Inu (SHIB), and Floki Inu (FLOKI) saw considerable reductions throughout the week. This downtrend followed a period of high demand seen in the earlier part of the month. The frenzy surrounding meme tokens, which previously energized the markets, translated into decreased trading volumes on Ethereum's decentralized exchanges (DEXs), widely utilized by cryptocurrency enthusiasts for token trades. Analyzing data from DeFiLlama, Ethereum's DEXs recorded just over $15 billion in trading volumes for the week, indicating a potential 25% drop from the previous week.

As investor interest in meme tokens shifted, the Solana (SOL) blockchain witnessed a surge in activity. Solana's DEX volume increased by 3% during the same period. The introduction of new meme tokens on the Solana network attracted more users, leading to increased revenue generation. Solana emerged as a faster and more cost-effective alternative to Ethereum, drawing attention away from the latter. Notably, the average transaction fee for Solana users stood at $0.027 in the last 24 hours, based on SOL's market value at the time of reporting. In contrast, Ethereum charged an average of $1.19 per transaction validation. The decline in on-chain traffic on the Ethereum network pointed towards reduced movement of native ETH tokens, hinting at a potential decrease in demand.
