Buterin highlighted the centralization of the Proof-of-Work algorithm as a key reason for the transition to Proof-of-Stake. He also addressed concerns about Application-Specific Integrated Circuits (ASICs) and their impact on the network. Many users were concerned that ASICs would not be financially viable under the new consensus mechanism.
