In a recent post on X, Szilágyi expressed apprehensions about the Ethereum ecosystem's heavy dependence on Geth for data storage and its potential ramifications for network resilience and decentralization.

Szilágyi highlighted a significant discrepancy among Ethereum clients, noting that while Geth maintains old chain segments, many other clients opt to aggressively delete them under the premise that they are unnecessary. While the short-term benefits of storage optimization may seem appealing, Szilágyi cautioned against the risks associated with widespread data purging. The issue of Ethereum client dependency has been a subject of contention within the community for some time. Current statistics from Ethernodes reveal that over 40% of Ethereum clients rely on Geth, with nearly 38% utilizing Nethermind, another software client in the Ethereum ecosystem. This concentration of reliance on Geth has prompted concerns about network centralization and spurred efforts by major crypto companies like Coinbase to explore alternative Ethereum execution clients in order to diversify their infrastructure.
