Seasoned Bitcoin developer Luke Dashjr had reported the compromise of his Bitcoin holdings due to a PGP exploit.

A recent development reveals that the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has reportedly issued a subpoena to gather personal details from participants of a Bitcoin core developer gathering in 2022. The issuance of this subpoena surfaced through Mike Schmidt, co-founder of the Bitcoin non-profit organization Brink, who disclosed that it links to allegations made by Luke Dashjr, a prominent BTC developer and co-founder of Ocean mining pool, regarding the theft of over 200 BTC through a hack.

Schmidt shared that he received the FBI subpoena in connection with Dashjr's accusation. Specifically seeking information about individuals present at the CoreDev Atlanta event in October 2022, just before TABConf 2022, the request prompted Schmidt to comply as advised by legal consultation.

The subpoena demanded the details of event attendees, including their names, GitHub usernames, and email addresses, to investigate Dashjr's claim. Despite a confidentiality provision expiring just prior to the disclosure, Schmidt, following legal direction, responded to the demand. Criticizing Dashjr for compromising his Bitcoin holdings, the exposure of the theft led to attendees' information being exposed to FBI scrutiny, raising concerns about their privacy during this inquiry.

Dashjr disclosed the loss of his funds following a Pretty Good Privacy (PGP) key breach on December 31st, 2022. The incident involved the loss of BTC valued at approximately $3.3 million at the time. However, with the market rebound and subsequent price surges triggered by spot Bitcoin ETFs and the forthcoming halving event, the total stolen amount would now amount to over $14 million due to the price uptick.
